The Green Soria
Getting into this area of the province is close to one of the lungs of the Iberian Peninsula, a large green perennial, in which the undisputed star is the pine. This area of the province can boast of harboring two natural parks, the Lobos River Canyon and the Black Lagoon and Glacier Urbión.
Starting a route that starts from the capital and taking the road to Burgos (N-234), we find places like Cidones, Herreros or Abejar, in the southern part of the reservoir of the Cuerda del Pozo, "La Puerta de Pinares". The road leads us to Vinuesa, municipality where the Black Lagoon, of great beauty and wrapped in great mystery, inspired Antonio Machado in his legend "The Land of Alvargonzález". Upon reaching Vinuesa, you taking the same route that leads to the lagoon, you reach the provincial border with La Rioja, reaching the municipality of Montenegro de Cameros.
Incidentally, we find the "Santa Inés Snow Point", where during the winter you can go skiing, snowboarding, etc ... and we delight breathtaking views of the pine forests that cover the area.
Vinuesa, if instead of the previous route, take the road that leads us to the north, and in the Duero Valley and cowering in the foothills of the Sierra de Urbión, we find beautiful villages pinariegos par excellence with stone constructions: Molinos de Duero, Salduero, Covaleda - one of the locations of the paths that leave the Picos de Urbión and birth of the Duero river and Duruelo de la Sierra, where we Castroviejo, one of the most impressive landscapes of the province for its peculiarity and beauty that surprises visitors with its spectacular viewpoint which offers sublime views of the pine forests, towns, Pico Frentes, the city of Soria ... and descending along a forest road we find the amazing Cueva Serena.
In the part of Pinar Bajo, within the limits of the wide area known as Pinar Grande near boundaries is the most emblematic natural areas of the province: the Lobos River Canyon that crosses among other locations as Casarejos, Talveila , Vadillo and Sant Maria de Las Hoyas.
Finally he deserves a special stop the viewpoint of the Galiana that offers a spectacular view of the canyon.
